April 2013, Tignes, France: Aggreko, the world leader in the provision of temporary power
and temperature control
services, has supplied a complete, turn-key power and temperature control solution to the recent X Games held at the ski resort of Tignes in the French Alps from March 20th to 22nd.
Aggreko supplied power across the entire event which included a fully redundant, critical power system for the giant television screens at the halfpipe and slopestyle arenas, the TV compound and the 17 lighting towers situated throughout the venue. In addition, domestic power and comfort heating was supplied to the VIP areas, X Park and the X Fest brand experience zones.
Situated at 2,100 meters above sea level and covered in a thick blanket of winter snow, the location of the event brought a particular set of challenges in terms of the design and commissioning of the Aggreko equipment. The project required 150 distribution points connected via 9 kilometres of cable which had to be buried in snow trenches throughout the entire event location. Three generators built onto sledges were also placed around the park.
